10 Fabulous Years, One Fabulous Festival! Burdick Job Corps 10th Anniversary
Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps had reason to celebrate, as this fall marks our 10th Anniversary. A festival marking the occasion and the accomplishment of placing over three thousand students into lifetime vocations was held on August 13, 2004.
Festivities for all ages included games for the children, bicycle safety, many display booths by local businesses and a dedication ceremony with guest speaker Bill Goetz, the Chief of Staff for Governor Hoeven.
“Without the support and encouragement Minot has shown Burdick Job Corps in the last ten years, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” says Rae Schobinger, Director of Outreach, Admissions and Career Transition Services at Burdick Job Corps. “Many businesses in Minot and across the state have worked with our facility to provide jobs for our students. This festival has been our way to say thank you to the city of Minot and to celebrate what we have accomplished in the last ten years.”
Lining the street were booths and equipment from local businesses including Capital RV, Minot Police Department, SRT, American Red Cross, and many others. At 11:00am, Bill Goetz and Lyn Dockter-Pinnick, the Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps Center Director, unveiled and dedicated a small pavilion area on campus. This corner bench, made by the students of Burdick Job Corps, now hosts a plaque in honor of the 10th Anniversary of Burdick Job Corps.
Burdick Job Corps looks forward to many more successful years!
Burdick Partnership Flourishes
Successful Partnership with Minot Public Schools results in New High School Diploma!
For the past nine years, Burdick Job Corps has been able to offer high school diplomas through the Minot Public Schools. However, the program lacked some flexibility and it was difficult for Burdick students to attain high school diplomas if they had less than fifteen credits when they arrived at Burdick. However, thanks to the great partnership between the Burdick Job Corps and the Minot Public Schools that was recently changed. Effective as of May 2003, Burdick Job Corps will be able to issue its own high school diploma! The Burdick diploma will still be through the Minot Public School system with the same number of credits required, but there is slightly more flexibility in some of the required courses. Thank you, Minot Public Schools, for helping Burdick Job Corps students achieve their high school diplomas!
