Current Vocational Offerings

A New Beginning...

Job Corps is a federally-funded program that offers young people between the ages of 16 and 25 the opportunity to develop and practice employability skills, interpersonal skills, obtain a GED or High School Diploma while learning technical training skills necessary to compete in today's job market. Job Corps provides young men and women the opportunity to pursue their dreams in a safe and secure environment. Job Corps is the single most comprehensive residential training program that ties education and job training experiences together through an aggressive School-to-Career approach with each individual's personal commitment to securing a better future while becoming productive citizens. Job Corps is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Job Corps purpose is to prepare young adults for a career through the instruction of vocational skills, employability skills, academic preparation, and Work-Based-Learning. Quentin N. Burdick not only sets a high standard but expects its graduates to be employable and have the ability to be promoted through the constant reinforcement of employability skills.

All student employees are required to demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental skills of math and reading through an initial assessment test. Therefore, many student employees combine their vocational training with academic education while training at the Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps Center. All books and materials necessary for coursework are provided at no cost.
